- The IFC/Google report says there are nearly 700,000 professional developers across Africa with more than half in five African markets: Egypt, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, and South Africa. This number compared to that of other countries and even states in other continents is very low.
- In 2021, the unemployment rate in Nigeria is estimated to reach 32.5 percent. This figure is projected to increase further in 2022. And the victims of unemployment are youths (mostly university graduates).
What is SteamUp?
SteamUp is an initiative by Imaginact that empowers young people with relevant skills that will enable them(young people) prepare for the future of work and globalization. The SteamUp program makes use of skills development to tackle skill deficit, unemployment and poverty in the society. Read more about SteamUp.
Imaginact is always committed to driving change and impacting youths, early this year under the SteamUp initiative Imaginact carried out free design classes for young people who don’t have access to PC but mobile phones, the program was successful and 300 young people received resources and 150+ got tutorship alongside the resources. Also this year, Imaginact partnered with Artechubs, a tech startup on an initiative called Act2gether, an initiative dedicated to promoting gender equality and increasing the number of women in work spaces. The partnership saw the training of 180 young school girls in stem.
Imaginact is launching its second project under SteamUp to train and introduce young people to in-demand skills like UI/UX design, app development, web development etc. This program is an in-person training available for students of Edo State university alone and it would take place at a venue in the school premises. The second project is facilitated by Esosa Enoyoze, a Lecturer at Edo University Iyamho and the training will see young guest tutors from various in-demand skills sectors.
