Act2getHer rounds up first batch of its program, Stem4Her. 150 girls were trained

By Imaginact inBulletin, Gender Equality

We started this month with the launch of a partnership initiative between us (Imaginact) and Artechubs, a tech startup based in the South Eastern region of Nigeria that  equips young persons between the age of 6 to 18 years with relevant skills needed for the workforce. The name of the partnership initiative is called Act2getHer. We choose that name because it is a call to action; Act to get her equality, act to get her STEM etc.

The purpose of the initiative is to kill the gender inequality in the workforce. Under this initiative we (“we” and “us” from henceforth is “Artechubs” and “Imaginact”) started a program under this initiative called #Stem4Her were we train young school girls with STEM skills and provide them tutoring sections on how to use the skills they have learned to tackle issues in the society. For now, we go to schools and engage young school girls.

A video uploaded by the lead trainer on Youtube showing some participants

The first batch of the training started on the 13th of February and ended on the 6th of March. The training was held on Saturdays (dates: 13th, 20th, 27th of February and 6th of march) and four days were spent training them. The first program also had 150 female participants.

The girls built tech equipment with knowledge gotten out of the training and also learnt a lot in the tutoring sessions on how to use their skills to identify issues in the society and solve them.

The first batch saw funding from the wonderful people at Opportunity Desk and Noboxhq. The funding enabled us to run the program smoothly and procure equipment that aided the girls learn smoothly.
